Hi Jim, welcome to the site! Fuel problems are common in these Blazers. It`s probably the fuel pump. When you turn the key on without cranking it, you should hear a humming sound from the back of the vehicle for about 3 seconds, thats the pump pressurising the fuel system. The best way is to put a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel line. If you hear the pump run, and there is no fuel, make sure there is some fuel in the tank and the fuel filter is not clogged. If he had no money for rent, then maybe he had no gas money either! Also check the fuse and the fuel pump relay. If it is the pump, they are under $100 and you have to drop the fuel tank to put it in.
Then you are offically a member of the Blazer club!
Good luck, Jeff.
