How to check Fuel Pump?
Is there any way to check my fuel pump before I replace it?
I ran my 1992 S-10 blazer (4.3L vortec) out of gas and it hasn't run right since. It will start, but will die easily when pressing the accelerator. It will usually idle fine for long periods of time, although it has died a few times.
If my pump does need replacing, is it easy enough for the average person to do at home?

So do you have the large round air cleaner or does it have the the black plastic trim cover with orange 'Vortec' embosed on it? 4.3L Vortec describes every 4.3L motor produced as vortec was the design of the cylinder heads since the inception of this particular 4.3L v6 engine from GM.
But because you say this, I am assuming you have the CPI motor. In which case, there is a fuel pressure test port on the back of the intake manifold towards the driver's side. To properly determine the condition of the fuel pump, you should run a pressure test with a fuel pressure gauge connected to the test port.

No response? From your other threads, I found that you have a 'W' code truck which means CPI. Thanks for providing that information... As I stated, you must check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge connected to the fuel pressure test port located on the rear of the intake plenum towards the driver's side.

jumper the relay and listen for the pump. Relay is located on the firewall drivers side. Put a jumper from the orange wire to the gray. Orange is constant power to the relay, gray goes to the fuel pump. if you dont hear it, it doesnt work. if you do hear it, chances are your relay is bad.
