these dash's are the worst! i dont know why they where ever invented. nothing but problems for me. and today the thing just craps out , nothing, but the lights for eng, seatbelt, and brake light up at the acc posotion, but those are bulbs so they are obviously not affected by the crappy dash. plus i smell that burnt electrical smell. probably either a fried wire or semiconducter on the motherboard. now i know these things are notorious for failure but is there anything that is particulary known to go/blow. i can solder and splice, but was just looking for any ideas before i brave the frigid temps to open my dash. im gonna get a look at the circutry and try and find any burnt parts, now does anyone know where i could find parts for the dash's board. ive seen repair kits but they are kinda $$$$, and so is the rebuilt path, not to mention being withut a dash for who knows how long.

I had a lot of trouble with my digital cluster on my chevy Z24 1987.It had long dark period.

I don't know if you know "Mr whizard" in Manitoba,Canada but he's a king in digital cluster.
He do a great job with mine and no problem after repair for about 200$ can.I shipped my cluster by post and a couple of days later,the cluster is back to me...I put it in my car and.

yea i got mr whizard bookmarked, but he'll be plan b. hes all the way in manitoba, and im on long island. that might just take a few more days then everyone else. im still gonna try and tackle the rebuild myself. im slightly knowledge in eletrical circutry, i used to rebuilt burnt parts in arcade consoles when i worked for a vending company in florida. my question now is does anyone know if the semiconductors, transitors, etc are made by anyone in particular like motorola, texas instruments or any of these nature. im ready to pull and solder what ever it is.



otherwise i should probably drive with a gas tank ready for the garaunteed "out of fuel in the worst place scenario" !

Oh, that looks nasty!
I'd phone some small independent auto repair shops and see if they will tell you where they sublet this kind of a repair job. If you're lucky there may be a place close to you.
