Keyless entry, what are the odds?
This isn't really a problem I'm having, more of a question, really. Today I was buying diapers at Wal-Mart and as I was walking towards my car I pushed my door unlock button, and I unlocked the Blazer parked next to me instead of mine! What are the odds of that?!?
I'm going to have to make it a note in the future if I'm in a parking lot to park away from that Blazer if I see it, which is highly likely given the small size of our city. I don't know the type of people that own that Blazer, and certainly don't want to give unknown personsaccess to my vehicle when I'm inside I store.

That actually is quite common. The older vehicles didn't have all that many frequencies to work from and a few other tricks that they have started to use in newer vehicles.
What are the odds that my 2001 Bonneville key would unlock and start my wifes 2002 Olds Alero?? Well, it did much to my surprise. I didn't even notice I grabbed the wrong keys until I got out and tried to lock the doors. Her Alero didn't have keyless entry! The key not only would unlock the door, but actually start her car!

Did it unlock your blazer and theirs also? How do you actually know you unlocked theirs? You should leave a note on their windsheild or something...lol

This is pretty common on the older trucks/cars, the newer ones have a "rolling code" that changes at times to prevent this from happening, but I have seen a few cases on 2003 + model years where a cell phone charger works on the same radio frequency as the RKE transmitters, and they will actually cause a "phantom" lock condition!......the last one I had was actually the dealership owner's 2005 Tahoe Demonstrator vehicle...kept locking his keys in it in his garage...lol

Speaking of the key issue, a few years back I had a 01 impala....after quite a string of troubles from in GM replaced it under GA arbitration law, giving me a 2003 impala. I gave them the main set of keys, not being able to find the set that my gf had lost. Finding them a few months later I played with the keyless remote, it did nothing so I took the main key and used it in the door, it worked! Started it up too. Makes no sense and I was quite disappointed, but hey it was her car anyway...lol
