Default Leaking antifreeze

Well after a long and annoying tune-up my little blazer is all good, except now its leaking antifreeze from what looks like the lower hose.

My friend (backyard mechanic) thinks my water pump is going. It doesn't overheat the temperature stays between 100-210 never goes above 210 on the temp gauge.

I had it parked at my friends house for about 8 hrs and it leaked a small puddle. It seems when i start it up cold and fail to let the engine warm up it leaks alot. Its leaking a small amount from the upper hose where it connects to the engine block, about a year ago the mechanic pressure tested the system and said it was fine.

Is there a gasket on the upper hose connection to the block which may need to be replaced? I tightened the hose clamps a few days ago and im also wondering if that could have made it too tight and caused a leak.

This only started leaking from the lower just recently. I wouldn't mind replacing the upper and lower hoses, it would give me a chance to flush the whole system.

Any ideas, advice, comments?

Why does he think the water pump is failing? Is it making the 'water pump squeak' or leaking from the weep hole at the bottom of the pump body? It is possible (depending on the type hose clamp you used) to overtighten a clamp, cracking or tearing the hose and causing a leak at the connection. If the hoses are original or just old, I would replace both of them.

When mine was leaking it was coming from the weep hole, on my factory water pump there was two weep holes one on the bottom and one of the top maybe its leaking from the top? see if you can get a look to see if its the hose or pump

Okay, it was the water pump, bought a new one (AC Delco) replaced the old one, cleaned the hoses. Then the engine began to get a little hot. Installed a new thermostat. Now its good. Heater blower needs to be replaced i think. And who thought it would be a smart idea to place two grounds on the thermostat housing bolt? looks like a okay place until it corrodes to the bolt and needs to be rewired.

not a bad idea-just need two wrenches, one a tappet wrench and another open end. Then remove...wire brush the heck out of all the components and grease em up put em' back on. Believe me, GM has much worse ideas than that!! Glad you got it fixed. Jerry[:-]
