This morning on my way to work, the truck started to spurtter and buck, like it wasnt getting enough gas. I was on my way to get gas anyways, I always fill up for the week. So I fill up and go to leave the gas station and it continued to buck and run rough. I thought that there might have been air in the line or something. So I pull over, pop the hood and rev the engine hoping to clear the air. Didnt help. But I was hearing like a tap or something while I under the hood.

So long story short, I baby the truck to work and figure I'll check it out on my break. I'm under the hood checking thing out and one of my spark plug wires had come off, driver side by the steering shaft, I think its number 3. Re-connected and made sure it was nice and tight, started it up and everything was fine again.

But did I do any damage to the cylinder for driving it like that for about 10 miles?

I've never heard of damage from that situation.

 

At most you could have fouled the plug just a tad, but that would clear off once the cylinder runs properly for a bit.

 

Would the loose wire, cause a tapping sound? Once I re-connected it, the sound went away. I was going nuts thinking my engine was messed up. Those hours at work until break, I was racking my head on what it could have been.

Yeah it should be cleared out now, I drove it 25 miles home that afternoon.

 

Yes, that's what a solid misfire sounds like. Nothing to worry about.
