my rear brakes are worthless
had this problem since i got this a few years ago .rear brakes can't even stop tires from spinning while on the lift and some throttle applied . during winter or any slippery condishtion my front's lock up instantly and then the abs kicks in but the rear does only 10% maybe of the work. abs still works/pulses unlocking them, master i believe is good /new cilinders and rear pads over a year ago ,and the rear are not worn that much. even thew they seem to to over adjust and drag . any thoughts or help much appreciated it's kind of a pain in the winter tryin to stop this fat little beast. ps my bro is a mechanic and he doesn't know whats wrong but he is a ford guy
I've read on other sites, and correct me if y'all know different, but that the metering unit, that big damn block in the engine compartment next to the master cylinder is of a poor design in the 93-95 models. It was redesigned (along with a lot of other things) in the 96 with a more reliable design. It has to do with the abs circuits.
I have a tendency to believe this. Sometimes if some dumbass cuts me off in traffic and I have to lay on the breaks to avoid the bugger my unit will give a loud... um...I don't know how to explain the noise, except it sounds like an out of tune trumpet. Seriously it sounds like BwooooOOOORK!
Breaks were one of the first things I learned when I started working on cars. And I've had mine meticulously maintained. Even had to replace a bad front caliper. And I have good flow from all lines (shoots right out at bleed). If I can find a link to the conversation I had with a pro brake guy I'll add it. the jist is aside from making sure you have good flow there's not much you're going to be able to do about it. Those units in those year trucks are flaky and you can't put one in from the newer models. different. Well unless you want to make a major modifucation (and no that was not a typo)

mine is a 92 with this same block(kelsey-hayes) and ive been having issues with the left front wheel and a 62 code and pedal slowly sinks to the floor. ive run across mixed comments on this unit, some same as "cage47" as to it being a poor design and big waste of space but when ive talk with few dealership mechanics they have little or no dealings with this unit cause they have never had many problems with them. sorry to steal ur thread "94" but id like to hear more on this subject and see what else is said bout it...my question is can this unit just be pulled and bypassed and lines hooked up old school without any major issues other that abs light staying on??
Are the rear cyls seized? I mean, they can move in no problems, but they might only go out so far cause of rustin inside. The cyls are cheap, and I would replace them both just in case, then take the old ones apart and have a look for a ring of corrosion on the inside thats making them not want to extend out any farther. You could hone the old ones out and reinstall them too.
