Steel Brakelines, Today's Platings are worthless
I work in a world where we plate some aluminum and steel chassis that I design. Over the years with the DEC and other environmental safety agencies yelling and screaming, the USA has had to change the plating that they can use.
All I can say is I hope the Landfill is happier with many tons of rusted up steel in their facilities over the better treated steel that stopped in teh late 80's. Where is the balance? Much more steel rusting and getting into our drinking water vs harsher chemicals on steel but much less tossed out?
The steel brakelines on my daughters '99 will be replaced very soon as I glanced at them during an oil change. My son's '74 Dodge dart has brake lines that are in MUCH better shape. My '85 pickup truck has brakelines that look like new, my '75 jeep has great looking steel lines. All original. So who are we kidding with this Plating fiasco that indirectly leaves the ground water and Land fills in worse shape?

Seems like it follows the trend of almost everything else in my opinion older it is the better it is.
