Have you tried to start it with starting fluid? If it does not start with starting fluid, then fuel is likely not your problem. That leaves air & spark as the likely culprits.
Also, please try to keep everything in the open forums. It allows you to get responses from many people as well as helps others that may be experiencing the same problem. Always include your vehicle information as well. If no one knows what you are driving, it makes it awful difficult to respond to your problem.

Thanx very much. I have an 89 s10 blazer that these issues concern. It tries to start with starting fluid but will not. I can see gas spurting from the injectors, not in any cone type shape. It just stopped all of the sudden with no real warning. How do i check the coil and where should I begin with the air issues...AS ALWAYS THANX VERY MUCH... GOD BLESS THE THE TROOPS

I am trying figure out why my 89 s10 blazer will not start. Starting fluid and it tries a bit, but put a few drops of gas in throttle body and it starts. OF COURSE IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING TO KEEP AN EXTINGUISHER HANDY. This tells me its not a pump relay or fuel filter.
I have a 1989 s10 Blazer with th 4.3l. never had an issue the 1st time 5 days ago. I had to turn the key twice which was the 1st hint of trouble. Shortly afterward I started again with no problems, it ran perfect for 2hrs then it died for the very 1st time ever. i cranked and cranked and cranked, it finally started and ran terrible, sputtering, spittin and carrying on. then it died and has not started since accept 1 time for a few minutes when I started it with Starting fuel. Now it just tries to start with starter fluid. if ya put a few drops of gasoline in the throttle body it fire right up. Being the SHADE TREE MECHANIC this tells me I have fuel pump problem. How do I go about doing the SHADE TREE testing for this issue. I took the supply line off of the throttle body, turned key on and no fuel at all. Is this an honest way to test? PLEASE ADVISE I AM IN A PICKLE OF A WAY RIGHT NOW. As always folks I Thank You
I have an 89 s10 Blazer, 2wd, with a 4.3l. is my fuel pump an internal or external? I think it's in the fuel tank but my old school Dad just won't let me go with out asking. Which type and what do I neeed to purchase for the pump change without all the extra trips while doin the job. will I need to buy the strainer sock? PLEASE ADVISE..Thanx as always

You should be able to re-use the strainer sock. Just sorta glanced threw your post but have you disconnected the line between the fuel filter and the gas tank and check for pressure there? Fuel pump is definitely in the gas tank. Fuel filter is possibly underneath the truck on the drivers side, between the middle of the truck and the rear tire tucked up in the frame. You should see the fuel line(s). Sometimes after sitting a bit the trash in a fuel filter can drop to the bottom side of the filter and then after being pressurized again will clog it back up

So what'd ya find out on the voltage? If not getting any voltage back to the pump, might want to check your fuses. Pay close attention when you turn the ignition key to the on position. Does everything on the dash light up that is supposed too? If you are getting voltage, sounds like it's a definite bad fuel pump. It was probably a lot easier for me to check as I have a 3" body lift. Just look above your driver side rear tire over top of the gas tank and you should be able to see the wiring going to the pump. You'll need to have a voltmeter with very sharp points on the leads. Check each wire pushing the sharpest point of the lead into and threw the plastic, making sure you are touching the inside wiring, while holding black on any metal on the truck.
