Default oil/exhaust smell when I turn the blower on

Howdy all,

New member here. I have a 1989 4WD 4.3L with a small engine oil leak. When I turn the blower(AC or heater) on, the smell of oil/exhaust is overpowering. Can anybody shed any light on what might be causing this?

Thanks

I would suspect that oil is leaking onto the exhaust manifold and vaporizing and the vapors being sucked in by the blower. The blower intake is the cowl vent at the base of the windshield. The hood is not air tight.

where is it leaking oil? Many of these 4.3's with the remote oil filter leaked where the oil lines bolted to the block-up in a cavity, near the slip shaft. An inexpensive fix parts wise but allittle tricky labor wise. Solve your oil leak and I'd bet the smell thru the heater will go away too. Hopefully for your sake it's not the dreaded 'rear main seal'. Jerry[&o]
