the cpi is the same up to 95 any thing newer is not interchangeable that is a different system

ummm.............wrong.

the CPI (W-code) 4.3 is a OBDI only system (it has nothing to do with the generation of truck), as OBDII didn't come in until '96 (and a new Vortec engine design).

and it's not just the computer that is different, it's the whole top of the engine. heads are a different design, have a different intake angle compared to the Z-code (TBI) engines. meaning the mating surfaces between the cylinder heads & the intake (lower intake on the CPI/Vortec's) are different. speaking of intaqkes, the W-code had a "Tune Port" style set-up (like the Vette/Camaro/Firebird's did) and was a split design (meaning it was made up of more than one component).

also, there are a few sensors that are W-code specific, and won't work on a Z-code engine.
