Spark + Fuel = Nothing??

I've searched the forum for answers and didn't find the answer. I may have overlooked it, but my level of frustration doesn't allow me patients right now. So, I have a '93 S10 Blazer 4x4 with the "W" code 4.3. It ran fine until last week. It wasn't getting spark to the plugs, but there was spark from the coil. So I changed the control module in the distributor and pick up coil. Now I have spark to the plugs, but it still won't start. There's a strong gas smell, so I'm pretty sure it's getting fuel. (No pressure gauge right now) I had a Mopar guy helping me and I think when we took the distributor out, we put it back in wrong. I have a 1-6-5-4-3-2 firing order set. But when the No.1 piston is at compression, the rotor (which was replaced also) is pointing towards the No. 1 plug at the distributor. My friend swears it's a timing problem. But we can't find out because the motor just turns over and over. So what could I be missing? It ran fine before the spark issue. I'm at the mercy of the Blazer Forum!!!

Broken timing chain maybe? Did you try cranking it with the cap off

u probably already know this but the odd numbers are on driver side ans even on passenger side! Also I believe there is a Electronic Spark Control Module on your truck, but not for sure! If there is it either on the firewall or on a bracket on the passenger side next to TB. It is square w/5 pins. This also controls ur spark, u might want to check it. I also found out that low fuel pressure, clogged fuel line, water in the gas, orbad temperature sensor can cause these problems . Good luck and let us know if u find the problem.

We cranked it with the distributor cap off and the rotor turned. All plugs are getting spark, it just don't wanna run.

I'll check for the spark control module when I get back to it. I'm out of town for the holiday so when I get back, I'll see. Thanks for the advice!

click on the links on my sig see if that helps you
if you got spark then it might be a fuel problem
if you got spark then it might be a fuel problem

sounds like the motor is flooding while the computer is attempting to relearn and cant compensate. Turn the motor until you get that heavy fuel smell again, then pull both injector clips off turn the motor until it starts (if it does), hurry and put ONE clip back on before the motor dies then once it is stable add back the second. IF this works go get a new temp sensor and reset your ECM when you install it and it should fire right away on restart.

Thanks for the advice. Ok. So I had no luck getting it running so I turned it over to a mechanic friend of mine. I get a text today saying it's running, it was a timing issue, but it will only start after he give it a shot of gas through the throttle body...(I think that's what he said). He said it runs fine after that. So it seems it's not getting gas on start up, but it is after its running....so...is this now a fuel pump gone bad? Perhaps something more sinister that I'll need a young priest and an old priest? I'm not giving up on this thing!!

I would check fuel pressure first, then check it again after changing filter and blowing out fuel lines! If pressure is still below specs I would check regulator and sock in tank on fuel pump! Good luck be sure to keep us updated

Ok, here's an update. I got it back and like my buddy said, it'll start and run if I give it a shot of gas in the throttle body opening. If I don't, it acts like it wants to start...actually sputters for 2-3 seconds and dies. The fuel pump is kicking in, but it sounds weaker than before, if that makes sense. I did drive it with the intention of ******* it to see if I could push any fuel line obstruction through it. I think if it could, it would have flipped me off! It'd takeoff with decent power, but as soon as the engine sped up, the power went away. But I did get it up to 60 without too much effort. I haven't checked fuel pressure/regulator/filter/sock yet. And when I got back, there were a few vacuum hoses that were not connected and I can't see what would go to them. They're by the distributor cap. And I wonder if the timing was still off a little, if that would cause it not to start on it's own? It did miss while driving, but I couldn't tell if it was missing because of timing or not getting enough fuel. And I also discovered the joys of opening the hood when the hood cable didn't pop the latch...I'll be investing in hood pins, I believe!
