spongey brakes
I changed my brake pads and drivers side caliper yesterday. go everything installed and began to bleed the brakes, and they will not firm up. i tried to bleed them for about an hour, but still not firm! also my "brake" light is on in the dash. I did check all 4 brakes to make sure everything looked ok. the rear shoes were replaced last month and they have been fine since. thanks.
Dont take offense but, sometimes its the simplest things. You said you bled the brakes for an hour. Any chance you ran the master cylinder dry?
Anyway, my brakes were like that on my 94. Found the problem was in the rear. The shoes were too far off the drum and werent self adjusting.
Pulled the adjusters off the rear drums, soaked em with some PB Blaster re-adjusted the rear brakes. all good. Oh, had to get those bushing kits for the front calipers too. I forgot about those on the GM calipers when I did my first brake job on the Blazer.

fluid level never got below half way. I have done that before! so i know better then that now. i have never seen a bushing kit for brakes though. also the brakes stop well enough to get me around, I am just concerned about them being softer than they were. I will take a look at the rear shoes.

Yeah, those GM caliper bushing kits are about 5 bucks each I think. Comes with new bushings and o rings for the caliper bolts. Its so the calipers will float on the pins.
I fixed both of those issues the same day (rear brakes) Im not sure which one helped the most. Probably fixing the adjuster on the rear brakes. It was easy to tell that was a problem though. The E-brake held like crap even when i shoved it to the floor.

oh yeah. my caliper came with that kit. my e brake does go closer to the floor, but its still holding ok. i cant push it too hard because i have a worn motor mount and the alternator fan looks like its gonna cut threw my hose!! i will take a good look at the adjuster when i get home today. thanks again
