Well my starter blew out, i think.
It worked fine, then took more to crank it over, now the question is, if it clicks its the solenoid, but I noticed it has a starter relay, Im just not sure which one to replace.
thanks in advance.

Usually 9 times out of 10 its the starter itself. so I'd start with that if it was me.

Yeah, it is the starter for sure, but I noticed there was a starter relay too which I have no idea where it is at, the thing doesnt even click anymore, just dead silence.
I guess its a trip to autozone to get a junk starter since the other ones I usually use are over $250.
I appreciate the response dory.

if it doesnt click then it is eaither the relay or the selonoid, that doesnt mean that the starter is not also broken. try the relay first, then its up to you becasue i think the selonid is part of the starter, although it can gernaly be replaced seperatly you might want to just get a new starter, your call.

Where is the relay at? Im going to be wiring in a remote solenoid( think ford) instead of using the one on the starter, it always worked on my small blocks before dont see why a 4.3 would be any different.
It did click and if I smack it , it will click but after it sits for a day it doesnt even click. Im just glad its easy to get at.

my chiltion covers 94-04 i am going to assume you are in that groupe, acording to the chiltion there is no realay, furthermore they do not recomend replacing the selonoid seperate form the starter motor, although i am sure i can still be done. my advice is to pull the starter off and take it to an auto parts store they can check it, if its bad, and i think it is, then just buy a new one and put it in. if it is ok, tell us and well take it form there.

Its a 92, I replaced it already, took a while due to the fact that you have to remove the front driveshaft, flexplate inspection cover, tranny lines and then you can get it down. Im going to toss out my Haynes manual and get a chiltons or a factory manual

I replaced it, works brand new now.
I am very discouraged with OTC manuals for these vehicles, they neglected to inform the reader that you have to drop the front driveshaft, a flexplate cover, move tranny lines AND somehow disconnect the wire at the starter WHILE its mounted on the vehicle.
It was a PITA but it was done.
