Default Starter Removal 87 2.8???

I need to replace the dead starter on my 87 2.8 manual 4x4. I can get it off, but can't get it out! What's the trick? Unbolting the motor mounts? oil pan? Please help, I have searched the forum and google a few times last weekend but couldn't find anything. Thanks in advance!

You have the cross member out? If you can get the y-pipe out it helps also. They are tricky, took me about 3 hours to get mine out and back in but now I know exactly what to do I think I can do it faster.

If you don't have one I would highly suggest forking over the $20 for a chiltons manual for it.

Default re..

drop the cross member and move the lines but it's gonna be a pain you have to angle it out a little at a time.
