Starter Trouble
My friend has a '93 2DR Jimmy, VIN W. Two weeks ago it wouldn't start. I went over to help him and I checked the battery. I tested the voltage with my multimeter and it only had about 10V. The starter would click but not turn over. We pulled the battery and got a new one. It still wouldn't start; not even with a jump from my Blazer.
Last week he beat on the starter and got it to start. He drove it over to my place where I have a shop and a few tools. It started up just fine three more times when I needed to move the truck around the shop/yard. Yesterday I took the starter out and took it to O'Reilly's and AutoZone for testing. Each place tested the starter and it tested fine. O'Reilly's did the test four times, AutoZone once.
Because the starter checked out OK I cleaned all of the contacts and battery cables and terminals and put everything back together. The truck started just fine when I first put it together. Because it started when I first re-installed it I put everything back on under the truck and turned my attention to replacing the driver's door hinge pins and bushings.
After replacing the pins and bushings I went to start the truck so I could move it and... just the click. It didn't turn over. It just clicked.
Now what? I've checked for opens in the wires going down to the starter. I'll check to make sure the solenoid wire lights up the test probe but beyond that I'm not sure what to check or how.
