Default Tearin it down!

Hey guys,
A buddy of mine is picking up the same yr make n model blazer as mine today. Its a '94 S10 Blazer L35 (Vortec) 140,000k

The current owner states there is coolant leak (haven't seen the truck yet) on the side of the block (friend didnt ask which side, ugh!) but stated its above a sensor (doesnt help any I know, im taggin along cause I know my way around better than he does) and what looks like he says its coming from a part that requires an allen wrench to take off. (I know, not much to work with till I take a look)

Anyways im just thinkin a head of time here till I check it out and think otherwise, but im thinkin could possibly be an intake gasket? If so im gunna rip her off and have a look see. Finally, heres the question besides what else could it be (freeze plug) without me seeing it, while I have the mani off, I of course will check for fuel staining around the FPR and fuel lines, see if they to be replaced and do so as needed.

Anything else I should check for while the mani's off?
Or any other ideas or suggestions of what else the culprit may be or what else to look for etc..

sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum, new to the site. thanks in advance for any and all help. If any more info is needed, lemme know
BTW he didnt ask if the leak was with motor on/off steady/slow etc

thanks

Yeah when your mani is off have a look at the coolant passages for gunk. I like to use a little high temp silicone on the rear and front horizontal parts of the intake gasket set for extra insurance, its what every shop Ive worked in has done when changing intake gaskets, keeps the returns for leaks from rolling in. Clean the old gasket off really well, and stuff some rag down the intake runners when you are wire wheeling the old gasket off. Take care tourqing that badboy down too and do it to spec in the order the book says. I like to flush cooling systems with that stuff they sell at walmart called "CLR - Calcium Lime Rust" it works amazing, just put it in the rad, run the truck for 20 minutes, and flush it all out THEN start tearing apart the intake,... Cleans it to like new condition and works 10 times better than the chemical flush they sell at parts stores!! Then save a couple spoonfuls to clean your coffee maker with too! You can also clean out your EGR passages with combustion cleaner and a toothbrush while you are at it. Take off the EGR and clean that bad boy out as well and you arent going to hurt anything by cleaning out the intake runners with the toothbrush as well. And get a screen gasket to put the EGR back on with (5 bucks, brand name is HELP!). Have a peek for fuel washing in the upper plenum when you are going after the intake too. If its all coated in black soot thats good, if its clean anywhere you have a fuel leak. Have a look at the connector on the injector harness, there is a rubber insert that should be in there, and the wire harness shouldnt wiggle around at all, it should be tight. If its loose you may want to grab a new harness for it while you are inside the plenum, its a 15 dollar part and very common to rot away, you wont be able to buy this part for a 94 blazer though, ask for an injector harness for a 95 half ton, it will have a blue and red wire to let you know its the right part. Also, undo the fule lines at the nut kit for removing the intake. If there is no fuel leak, dont even touch that injection stuff, just leave it all as it sits and pull the intake with it all in place. May want to clean all the sensors you come across in the intake track while you are dissassembling it all. It wont hurt. they sell a chemical called CRC Sensorkleen that works well. Clean up everything you like while you are in there, then change the oil when you are all done. Yes its going to smoke like a bastard when you fire it up again once its all done, thats OK, just let it burn all the crap out of the cylinders and maybe push it back out the garage door for startup. I like to pour some solvent into the crankcase before changing the oil, it will loosen up old junk for you. If you have access to some Diesel fuel, use that instead, Diesel fuel will also clean out the crankcase well and lubricates better than solvent does, or even a litre or two of ATF, buts its kinda expensive to use trans fluid that way. run for 10 min, and change the oil.

If it does turn out that you need some fuel injection parts, DONT GO TO THE DEALER for the replacements, there is a link to a cheap replacement on these forums, or PM Gimpy_Blazer and ask him for it.

The allen key thing with a leak may be your block heater. Mine has an allen key to loosen it. If thats the case its a snap to fix it. I dont know if american cars come with block heaters even??????? I know we need them up here in canada.

are you serious?

no wonder some of our American cousins think we live in igloo's and only use dog sleds to get around.

you do realize that there are State's that get worse Winter weather than some parts of Canada? besides how bad does it really get in Abbotsford?
