Default temp Gauge gets hot, then cools down after a bit.

K i own a 78 K5 with a fairly new block, when I head out the Hot/Cold gauge will go all the way up after driving for about 7 mins, it usually doesn't stay on hot too long then goes back down to the middle like it normally should, I am just worried about the engine all of a sudden saying its hot like that then going away. is that something to worry about??

Sounds to me like the thermostat is sticking shut, then popping open at an unusually high temperature. I would replace the thermostat (maybe $5) and see how it goes from there. Make sure that you get all of the air out of the system before you drive it for any extended period of time.

And maybe a ten foot ladder to get into that beast.

hahah yeah I'm only tossing them on to pass inspection, the real question is how to pass emissions! they said I failed both tests for emissions, running too rich. I put a new Edelbrock carb on this last summer and have no idea how to tune it so I can pass.[:@]

I'll have to see what I can find. How do they run the test? You could probably lean out the idle circuit and get it to pass, but depending on what carb you have, the idle screws might be in different locations (maybe not though). It's been awhile since I have messed with an Edlebrock (carter) carb.

If I sent you a pic you think you could pinpoint where those idle screws are?

Just need to know the model number of the carb.
