Throttle body wiring grommet removal

Throttle body wiring grommet removal
I am in the process of replacing the intake manifold gaskets on my '91 S15 Jimmy, 4.3 L. Can anyone tell me how to remove the hard, rubber grommet that fits inside a small recess on the throttle body that the injector wires run through? I've tried pulling it straight out, sliding it up and down, but it won't budge in any direction. I would like to know which way it comes out so I won't end up damaging it trying to get it out. Thanks for any help or ideas!

you dont take it out. follow the wires you will find a section of the wiring that will unclip the wire.
oh never mind thats on the vortecs. ummm from what the pic looks like you just push it down and it will pop out. from the pic it looks like the wires have been siliconed in.
try taking a flat blade screw driver and a hammer and lightly tapping it downward.
either that or take a pair of cutters and cut a small sections out of the front so you can slide the wires out then afterwards you can silicone it back up.

Thanks for the suggestion. I had already tried a screwdriver and hammer, but it just cut into the rubber without budging. I did find a picture though that shows a throttle body with the grommet removed. I may have to somehow work a small flat blade screwdriver along the right side. Looks like there is a small "catch" on the right side of the recess that keeps it from pulling out freely. Any other tips or tricks??? Thanks!

It slides out, just push it out. Trying to push it up or down might have loosened it a bit but that's not the direction it removes.
Most likely the rubber is old and dried out.

yea. rubbers just old and hard. it slides out towards you. They can be a pita to get off as ive removed mine several times.

Thanks for the replies. At least now I know what direction to go in. Seems like the simplest things end up causing the most headaches.
