Default Timing Help?!!?!

Hey everyone I have a 92 vortec engine, and had an issue with my lower intake manifold last winter but didn't get around to pulling it off until recently. When I did pull it off, I was an idiot and forgot to mark my distributor. Well now, I got it all put back together, got it at what I believe is TDC, tried cranking it over and am getting some ignition but it won't start. It sounds almost as though it's backfiring. It's something but not enough for it to actually kick on. I've put in some iso heet to try and get out any water out of the gas tank, as well as some fresh gas. The fuel pump is working properly, I'm getting fuel into the cylinders as well as spark. Can anyone share any sort of insight or suggestions, I miss my baby!

Maybe a 180 degree turn on your distributor?

I tried that already and the result was I was getting nice sized flames out of my intake manifold. I figured that was happening cause it was already 180 degrees out and sparking while the intake valves were supposed to be open while recieving fuel

Pull the drivers side valve cover. Turn the engine by hand until the timing mark lines up with zero degrees and cylinder #1 intake valve has just closed. Install the distributor so that the rotor points at #1 on the cap. This is a good place to try and start the engine.

I pulled off the valve cover, verified TDC, and still hasn't given any changes. When it's turning over I'll get a few "pops" out of the exhaust but nothing enough to start it up.

Was the rotor on the distributor pointing directly at the #1 cylinder when TDC?

Checked the firing order, it's all good. I lined up #1 at TDC and tried it, wouldn't go, so I advanced it and tried retarding it a little, still the same results.
