Default Timing Problem?

I have a 1994 S10 Blazer, 4.3 CPI. I just did the lower intake gaskets, nut kit, injector spider, dist cap, rotor, plugwires, and plenum gasket. The coil and plugs are a month old. It ran rich before and was a little sluggish but open up around 3500 rpm. The fuel pressure regulator was shot, leaking gas into the intake, blah blah blah. I got it all back together and it fired right up and idles nicely but it has no power. I don't know if I got the distributor body in the right spot. I know I got the rotor pointing where it should though. I accidently washed off the mark I painted onto the intake manifold but it was kind of still there so I repainted the mark. The truck is waaaaay sluggish, has trouble getting to 30 mph. I haven't tried to get it going faster than that yet but it doesn't look like it wants to. Could my timing be slightly off? I can't turn the body anymore clockwise or it will hit the intake manifold, its about 1-2 mm away from touching. How do I set the timing on my truck? I don't have a repair manual as my local parts store seems to have every Chevy manual except the one for my truck. I think it might be a couple degrees too far clockwise. Which way is to advance and which way is to retard? How do I set the timing on this? I have never set the timing on one of these. The only experience I have is with a Jetta. Also, what type of wrench should I use on this thing? I can't get at the hold down bolt with a combi wrench or a socket unless I have the upper part of the intake removed.
