I THINK there is 2 bolts on the side of the trans. one to fill, one to drain. Check it by removing the top one,if low top it off.

*someone else chime in,i had googled this and thats the only thing i could find..i need to get away from automatics for a while..sheesh.

All I could find on the service website is

CHECKING FLUID LEVEL "Check lubricant level at transmission filler plug hole. Lubricant should be level with bottom of hole. Add as needed."

RECOMENDED FLUID "The 4-Speed, 5-Speed and all "S" series vehicles with manual transmissions use dextron II automatic transmission fluid."

Now im sure you can use dextron 3 or even 6 as im sure they are backwards compatabile.

On a somewhat related topic.... I just replaced the 700R4 in my '90 and the manual (Chilton's) wasn't real specific on how to fill the t-case. I pulled the top plug out on the driver's side on the rear of the case and used a transfer pump to add the ATF till it ran out the hole. Is it full? Capacity wise it's supposed to hold two pints of fluid and I didn't keep track of how much I put in it. I'm not even real sure what case I have. Can anyone help? I'm guessing it's the np207 cause it has the vacuum line goin to the diff and has the tag facing the rear on d/s.

Yes there is an upper and lower plug (takes a torx50 or hex50 I think). The lower is the drain, the upper is the fill plug. You fill it on level ground until the oil comes out the hole you are filling. 2 litres is about right. Probably 4 litres in that 4spd.

Look on the side, there will be 2 plugs that look the same. One near the bottom, and one about 6 inches higher.

Will the drain on the transmission completely drain the fluid?

I'm wondering because I might want to switch to a synthetic, but I imagine you don't want to mix the two.
