Default Bad 02 sensors related to tranny rebuild?

97 w/ 118k miles...Had a SES light come on right around the time my tranny quit shifting due to a bad torque converter. Had tranny rebuilt by a reputable tranny guy and the SES lightcameon againabout 15 miles out of the shop. Autozone reads codes P0134 and P0154 (Bank 1 sensor 1 and bank 2 sensor 1). Is it a coincidence that both these sensors went bad at the same time or should I be looking for something related to the tranny work? I know something is up because I'm getting about 10 mpg and its pretty sluggish, but don't know where to start. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to start w/ sensors because I understand they don't last forever. Any help would be appreciated.

It's possible that they disturbed a ground during the tranny work that has affected the sensors. Really have to get into it and see if there's anything out of place.

If you do end up having to replace the O2 sensors, I recommend you only use AC Delco or if you can find them, NTK.

No doubt they had to take out the exhaust system to get the tranny in and out. I bet they simply forgot to reconnect the wiring harnesses. The pcm wont even look for a signal from the 02 sensor until the engine has warmed up (15 miles down the road would be about the right amount of time for it to warm up). If the puterdoesn't get the right amount of voltage from the 02 sensor, itgoes into open loop and uses defualt settings. The engine will run, however your gas mileage will suck big time. Crawl under there and see if they forgot to reconnect one of the 02 sensors.

edited to add: I would also call the tranny shop and let them know what happened. I could see you holding them accountable for it, and them taking responsibility for it. Only if you call them right away.
