Hmmm, I went out and bought a bypass pulley nad now I see they make belt w/o ac

Without the AC clutch or bypass pulley / or a idler pulley in non AC units it throws the belt angle off and in by doing so increases tension on the belt from the belt Tensioner

I can tell you what happens when a meth head gets creative and just throws a belt on without the bypass pulley. The power steering pump takes the abuse and the bearing wears then the belt starts to be thrown off as soon as the truck starts.
It can be done for a short time but term it's a really bad idea. The real trick is getting the right bolt and the washer that holds the pulley and bearing in position.
I got one at pick n pull for a couple of bucks which included the pulley as the idler pulley would work also.

For me, permanently disengaged a/c clutch is equal to an idler wheel. Why are You reinventing the wheel here?
