Hello everyone

regular guages/digital odometer and gear indicator
it shows the gears
but I have no indicator to show what gear its in
if I remember correctly I was told it worked before the tranny was R&Red
(flywheel problem)
everything works good just no indicator
I am thinking connector or wire.
I looked briefly and nothing looked out of place,but have to get under and have a good look
what connector and wires and I looking for

also the gas guage doesnt work-reads empty
again prob wire
I think its a harness that runs along the frame ,correct
or reading empty might it be a ground-?

ideas/opinions/guesses

My first thought is that it is 2 problems,

The lack of a shift position indicator is usually the park neutral switch, located right on the trans on the driver side where the shift cable goes, there is one electrical connector plugged into it, and the factory dielectric grease is like glue, damn things always required heating to unplug.

the gas gauge I don't think is related. could be the sender wire, or the sender itself.

 

figured it would be 2 probs


there is 2 connectors going into that area-one above the other
what does what ?

fuel guage I am thinking wire
does it travel along the frame rail
or does it go above the transmission?

when I checked it I had the other side jacked up to do an O2 sensor,I slid under to quickly check it,didnt have alot of room to look
I have a new fuel filter I am gonna put in,so when I have it in the air I can have a real good look
just trying to get an idea on where I should be looking

 

o ya, your right it has 2 plugs in it.
a small one and a bigger one below it if I remeber correctly.
a 15 or 14 mm should do the shifter linkage, and two 13mm with a wrench should do the switch. It will probably still require heating to remove the electrical connectors.
do not move the new switch when you install it or the vehicle won't know what gear your in. and you'll have to adjust it. instead move the linkage on the trans to line up the bolts with the new switch. probably park or neutral though.

check for power and ground with a test light at the sender.
but i've only lost fuel gauge on my 84 K5 and fixed it, not on my 99 s15 jimmy, it has always worked so far...
