has anyone else broke their hood latch cable?
well i just got my 98 blazer roughly 2 weeks ago. at first the hood latch was really loose and wasnt working. i tried using pliers to pull on the cable from inside and it ended up breaking. i was able to locate the cable and open the hood from outside a few times but, now i have to unbolt the hood latch when i wanna get under the hood. i've ordered a new latch. can someone give me any ideas on how to put it in. am i gonna have to remove the dash or can i access it by just moving some things around under the dash? please let me know. i'd like to get this fixed asap. thanks.

only took me like 20min to fix.. i didnt remove hardly anything, i just bought a new cable, attached the end of it to the end inside the dash with some electrical tape(making sure no part can catch while you pull it), and I pulled and finagled it through, following the same path.

well today i replaced the cable. wasnt too bad. pulled the grill off and found the cable and followed it back and disconnected it from the little black connectors. i unscrewed the washer fluid container, fuse box, and 2 other things so i could get to the cable at the firewall better (all are connected with 10mm screws btw). from inside the cabin i unscrewed the 2 10mm bolts holding the hood release in place and then unbolted the 3 13mm bolts holding the parking brake in place. once i did that i pulled the cable all the way through the firewall and it was out.
once i opened the new hood latch cable i slid the black rubber keeper (the part that sits in the firewall) to the end of the cable that actually pulls the hood latch open and i pushed it into the hole in the firewall and that secured it into place. i then pulled the cable through the same route as i had removed it and i fastened it into the black keepers that held the original cable in place. be careful not to pull too hard on the cable when trying to get it settled because you'll pull the rubber piece through the firewall and then it's a bitch to get back in. anyway, reattach the cable to the latch the opposite way you unhooked it and bolt the hood latch back into place and you should be good to go.
if it doesn't work the first time don't panic. the latch may be pressed in or out or the cable itself may be pulled in or out in which case you play with it alittle and everything should fall into place as it should.
hope this helps anyone who ever has to do this.
