Default Keyless entry remote

I lost my remote today for my 2001 Blazer. I hesitate to buy a new one from the dealer because I heard they run anywhere from 60-100 Canadian$. A guy from work told me he had a spare one from his wrecked Escalade and that I can have it. Can it be programmed by myself to actuate the door locks and alarm? Does anyone know of a location to buy them in Canada if I can't use the free one? Also I only have one key and was told it would cost me 200$ from the dealer to get a new one due to the key having a chip, is this true?

No, you cannot do this because they use different frequencies and what they call access codes for the blazer to recognize the signal. I just bought a brand new one on eBay for $25.

I have a keyless remote from my uncle's 99 blazer. Can it be used on my 2001 blazer? If so how to I reprogram to work on my Blazer? Does the dealer need to do this option or can it be done at home?

I doubt the remote will work with a later year but you are welcome to try.

Here are the programming instructions:

1.Close all vehicle doors.

2.Insert the key into the ignition.

3.Hold down the power UNLOCK button on the driver’s door
panel-continue to hold down until instructed to release.

4.Perform steps 5 through 8 in fairly rapid succession.

5.Turn the ignition switch to the ON position (as far as you can go
without starting the engine).

6.Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

7.Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

8.Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.

9.Release the power unlock button on the door panel. The vehicle will
lock and unlock the doors automatically.

10.Hold down the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously
until the door locks and unlocks. This step may take up to 30 seconds.

11.Repeat step 10 NOW for each additional transmitter (including any
existing transmitters).

12.Turn the ignition switch to the ON position in order to exit the
transmitter programming mode.

I tried that and it worked! I thank you for the programming sequence and the other info on the keyless entry.

Okay, so now I have to ask the idiot question of 2007.. I read through the article at:

https://blazerforum.com/m_75839/tm.htm

I followed the instructions (same instructions as the ones posted above), checked the information in the article listed above, and I do have AU0 listed in the RPO list and from the same above article it looks like I've got the right key fob, so I believe that I do have the remote keyless entry installed in my truck, but I don't seem to be able to get the remote to work.

I've got a 1997 Blazer LT 4.3L V6.

When I release the Door Unlock button on the drivers door the door locks do not cycle.

Any thoughts on what could be wrong? RKE module removed or otherwise disconnected?
