Default Rapid clicking/won't start

2004 Chevy Blazer

Won't start, just makes rapid clicking noise. Radio, lights, dash lights, interior light work fine.

Starter maybe? And any approximate time this may take to fix? I will have to take it somewhere for replacement. Thanks

Have you tried jump starting from another vehicle?

Wasn't able to get a car near where my truck was parked but I was able to get a portable charger hooked up and it did start.

So something is draining the battery. Wonderful fun times trying to figure that one out.

Is the red battery icon illuminated in the instrument cluster when the engine is running? If not, it could be a faulty battery. Most auto parts stores will test batteries for free. Might be worthwhile to take it in and have it checked. You can bring them just the battery, or drive the vehicle there for them to test it in the vehicle.

I only see the red icon illuminated when I first turn the engine over, then it goes out. The battery light is not on when I was driving the truck around. But I have noticed the battery volt gauge needle slips below the middle line after driving for awhile. If I use turn signals and AC, the needle slips below halfway as well, but not too much.

I will be bringing it in to be tested first thing in the morning. Also, having alternator and starter checked out. They are both original parts. Truck has 112,000+ miles.

Most likely it's the battery. If the red icon is not illuminated while driving, the charging system is working. Save yourself some energy, (and possibly money needlessly spent) and test the battery first
