Default Throttle body adapter seal replacement

I thought I'd share something I did on my '00 Jimmy. I was doing some other work which required pulling the adapter off. My seal has hardened over the years and did not seal well. I have read that this seal is non-replaceable. There is no P/N for it and to replace it requires a complete new adapter. I noticed that the seal was a separate piece. With a little bit of persuasion, it was popped out. I also noticed that the used fuel pump seal, left over from a recent fuel pump replacement was about the right size. I trial-fit the pump seal in place. It was a bit too tight over the TB.

I took the pump seal to my drill press with sanding drum. I gently sanded the ID to where the wall thickness (id to od) was about 0.165", about the thickness of the original seal. Then turned it inside out so the flat side fit into the adapter. It was a light interference fit. I lightly greased the ID of the seal (now effectively a half round profile) so it slid easily and snugly over the TB. It now fits well. Trial fitting as you sand so you don't sand off too much would be advised. I don't know how long the seal will last. But at least for now, I don't need to buy a new adapter.

I'm certain that taking the old seal to a local jobber, the right seal could be found.

You can also try any place that sells pump seals or parts. They would most likely have a large assortment of "O" rings that would fit it. Plumbing supply stores could also be a source if you have the old seal with you to compare it too. O rings are easy to find.
