When idling the oil meter goes to 0 and the check gauges light turns on. When you apply gas, it goes back to normal and the car runs with no issues. Has anyone seen this before? potential battery?

 

What weight oil are you running? If you are running 5w-30 you might want to go with 10w-30. Also, did you check the oil level?

 

Yes, on my 1989 S15 Jimmy I had the light at idle after warming up for many years. I recently had the engine out and installed a High Volume Oil Pump. Now oil pressure is great at all engine speeds. You could try heavier weight oil to see if that helps with the low oil pressure. You could measure the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge installed to measure the actual pressure at idle.
