Default 01 Blazer running rough

Well my check engine light came on they other day and read codes for the MAF Sensor and EGR Valve. So I cleaned them both, check engine light remained on. It's been running fine for the past 2 days but today I got home and put it in park and it seemed like it wanted to die. So I revved it up a bit and when the RPM's came back down it went to around 3-400 and almost died but then went to 600ish and ran a little rough. So I shut the truck off and tried to start it again and it cranked a few times and I had to give it gas to start, but it always used to start up right away. So I tried again and it had to crank for a few times and it started but is running rough. I'm thinking that since the check engine light remained on even after a very good cleaning that the problem may be the EGR Valve or MAF sensor itself. Anyone have a clue? Thanks. Mitch

I cleaned the EGR Valve with Carb Cleaner and used a Dremel with a wire tip to get just about all the Carbon out of it. Made sure it was dry before re-install.

The MAF Sensor I used the actual cleaner made for it. I cleaned it off gently. Didn't touch the little wires. Didn't seem to be all that dirty.

I cleaned a MAF sensor the other day. There is a fuse that had burned out that supplied voltage to the sensor. Since we cleaned it and replaced the fuse it has been fine.

did you ever clear the codes you had before you cleaned your egr and your maf??? an SES light will only clear itself in rare occations, and did your battery recently die??? just curious. And what is your fuel pressure at?

What were the specific codes?

Have you cleaned the throttle body, specifically the IAC valve?

And codes will clear after a certain number of good readings. This goes for most OBD2 codes.

I did not have the codes cleared. Battery has not died. Not sure how to check fuel pressure. The codes were P0401 and P0101. No I did not clean the throttle body. Thanks for the replies.

I just went out there and she fired right up no problem. 14* F. Idle is 1100 which I'm assuming because it's cold.

Check these threads out and look for things that could cause both codes:
P0101 - Mass Air Flow System Performance
P0401 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Flow Insufficient Detected

I had that problem with mine a few months ago, it ran rough for a day or so and then suddenly fixed itself and ran fine up until now...

I took it in again today and the EGR Code is gone but the MAF code is still there with a new one. P0410. I'm assuming it may be that sensor you were talking about in the throttle body Swart? Also when I went out to leave it had to crank a few times again.

P0410 - Secondary Air Injection System

Different than what I was talking about.
