Default '01 Electronic Brake Control Module issue

Hello all, I hope I am in the right section...

I have a 2001 with 125k on it. my BRAKE and ABS lights are both coming on at the same time. The shop i took it to at first thought it was the master cylinder, had that replaced and the lights continued. Took it to another more senior shop and they hooked up a computer and were getting codes that my EBCM was failing.

My question is this: should i just go with the shop's $1200+ repair estimate? or should i do one of these websites that offers to repair a device that i ship to them? below are two example websites i found.

ModuleMaster
ABSFIXER.COM / ABS EBCM Repair

OR---- do i just go to the local junk yard and try to pull an EBCM from another blazer and install it in mine?

advice? suggestions? im not too keen on a $1200 repair bill...

It really depends on why the light was on and the codes that were present. The light can set due to a failing EBCM or due to a faulty wheel speed sensor. One costs $1200 (to use their cost) and another costs $60. Which one are they going to quote you?

There have been a few people that have used module master in the past. Whether that is an option for you depends on what EBCM you have. They can only rebuild one of the types used on these trucks.

The way they explained it there were technically two codes. one that indicates the EBCM is failing and another that is a "precursor" alarm that basically sets off the EBCM code. I'm sorry i dont have the codes exactly. but i might be able to have the shop pull the records and tell me....

AH HA!!! found the codes the shop pulled:

C0265 - EBCM Relay Circuit
C0281 - Brake Switch Circuit
