Default 02 blazer heater core

So I have my blazer which has been having the smoke come out of the vents and smelling like coolant. I eventually noticed it was leaking coolant under the vehicle below the passenger feet area, unlike most have mentioned it would leak inside that on the floor board. I'm fairly sure its the heater core. could be the hoses leading to it also?? havent been brave enough to actually look and see whats going on into depth yet. And dreading the idea of having to rip the dash part to even get at the heater core. Been searching all over the internet and on here and really have not found many descriptive pictures and detailed steps. With being new on here and to working on all my issues my vehicle has, this one has got me nervous... to a very unsettling level. This is my only vehicle and 'she' (yes ive decided its a she lol) has been good to me for over 10 years. And Im not good with trusting mechanics anymore as they have over charged n failed to do the job properly and they have failed to tell me of other problems I have with her that I should have gotten fix immediately. grrr

But again on a very seriously note. does anyone know where I could find some detailed steps/pics of this procedure. I dont want to f*** it up.

Thanks in advance

Well thank you anyway for at least responding and intending to help

After 5 hours of work and a crap load of cussing, I finally got the old one out. But there is coolant everywhere in the little compartment that it sits in as well as all the foam strips around it and in the dash vents foam. How do I get all of that coolant out? probably just have to replace the foam tape stuff on the heater core itself but what about the air ducts?

Try and clean them off the best you can. Unless you have the $$$ to replace them.

I replaced most of them. No leaks that I can see. BUT, I kind of noticed this even when the broken heater core was still in, when I turn the heat all the way on when truck is in idle, it doesnt blow hot air. It did tho when I stepped on the gas a bit, while still in park. When I stopped pressing on the gas pedal the heat cont. to blow. But when I messed with the **** again, It went straight back to blowing ice cold and didnt blow hot again til I pressed on the gas again.

Is that a faulty **** in the dash? Or could it be because I have only water and that radiator cleaner stuff in it? Or is it something else???

I replaced the thermostat and heater resistor that I had purchased a while ago. Actually the very end of last winter when my heat didnt work at all. Still not even sure of the reasoning behind why it didnt work. But, at that time, it only didn't work when it was really really cold out. When it was just kind of chilly outside the heat went on. And it was the blower that wasnt turning on but we could feel heat at the vents. Any idea on why that was would be great too. I want this winter to be warm and toasty on drives. \

Thanks

If your blower motor is a know good then check your blower motor resistor for the air not coming from the vents. The blend door on my 1998 is vacuum operated. Have you checked to make sure you are getting sufficient vacuum to operate your blend door.

So I fixed it!!
So I drained the cleaner, refilled with water then ran truck til it warned up that time no heat came they at all even with strong on gas. Let the truck cool down while I continued putting on the dash n kick panels. Drained that then put my Dex cool in... and decided to take the thermostat out again. All I did was take it out and squeeze the bottom up a few times.. the first time it seemed a little stuck.put it back in stated up tech and heck yea.. Heat!!
Oh and that was the heaters blower resistor that I had changed already. Was going to do the bend for actuator next. Glad I got it with out tho didn't feel like bringing dash down again but wasn't putting all the bolts back in.
Now for the next project... calipers and brackets then front lower ball joints. Yay
