Default '05 Emergency Brake Issue

Hey guys, Im lookin at purchasing a 05 blazer LS 4x4 off my good friend. The only problem it has though is the e-brake does not work and aparently his mechanic said its going to be like an $800 fix which seems outragous to me. He said something about it locks something in the rear diff which I have never heard of before and I told him to talk to a different mechanic. Truck is in good shape though only 90,000kms and ive known the truck since he has owned it. Could I get some imput on the e-brakes on these rigs?

Thanks guys,
Kaldon

if you got rear discs you probably have drum brake emergency brakes. basically its a mini version of drum brakes inside the disc rotors. sometimes they just literally fall apart from never being used. i dont see it being 800. probably around 50 bucks in parts and 2 hours to change if they are really hard to get to
