Default 1995 blazer randomly dies when hot

I have a 95 blazer with 272k miles. When I got it it would be very hard to start when cold. The previous owner put a block heater on it to "fix" it. I did some searching and found the common problems for that so I ordered a new injector spider with a new regulator on it. When I pulled the hold one I found that the connector had one of the wires broken off. Ordered a new connector and all was fine for a couple months. Now when it is hot it will randomly die. It will restart for a couple seconds and die again. Sometimes I can rev it to about 4k rpms for a out 30 seconds and it will run fine other times I have to wait for it to cool off. I am not getting any codes. Anybody have any idea what is going on?

1995 was a hodge podge year and it will have one of two completely different control systems using two different sets of diagnostics. We need to know which system you have. Do the spark plug wires attach to the distributor cap horizontal or vertical?

Yours has the "newer system" of the two. It has a transition computer control system that we affectionately call, "OBD1.5" and not all scan tools can communicate with it to retrieve trouble codes, (requires unique software).

One of the "weak links" is the fuel delivery system, so that's where we need to start diagnosing the problem. This link explains: https://blazerforum.com/forum/2nd-ge...eakdown-88305/ Post all 4 readings and we can analyze them for you.

That will unfortunately have to wait until next weekend when I can get a fuel pressure gauge and have time to do it. Thank you for the info and I will post up what the results are.

Default Update: fixed

I fixed the problem. Had a tear in one of the boots on the plug wires. Replaced the plug wires and so far so good.

Hmmm not saying the plug wires were not bad but a torn boot will prob give you a misfire but shouldn't give you the dieing or hard start problem. Still advise doing what captain advised and do the fuel pressure checks

I didn't expect it to fix the problem but I haven't had an issue since. It would do it every time it got hot too not just an intermittent problem like when it first started happening. Another question though, what is the optimal temp for these to run at? It was getting up to about 240 before the thermostat opened and then would run right above 210. I just put a new water pump in with a 180 thermostat and it is running at about 165.
