1995 head gaskets
Just wanted an opinion from anyone who has been around the 4.3
I guess I did not have the water/atnifreeze ratio quite right because it would have cooling issues when it would get near 0(-8 this morning). Normally it would get in the 220-230 range before it would start cooling. This morning it went right by to 260+.
I was only a few blocks from work by this point. So after shutting it off I could hear boiling and there was steam coming from the overflow tank. So I know it was hot.
My question is, should I be worried about the head gaskets or are these pretty stout engines that can take abuse? I know it's got by with an intermittent lean due to a bad TPS connector which does not help anything.
I'll be checking the radiator level and looking for leaks during lunch. Just want to know what my odds are of doing head gaskets while I'm replacing the rusted out leaking fuel tank.
These S10s are a mechanics dream.

Water/antifreeze, you think your radiator froze?
That would certainly make it over-heat.
To answerer your ? the 4.3 is pretty hard to blow a head gasket.
Ice cold coolant does not seem to be a very good thing to be hitting a hot motor.
Keep your fingers crossed, most likely be fine.

Radiator was not froze. It was empty. So I'll be filling it with water to make the 10 minute drive home and find the leak. Fingers are crossed it didn't migrate into the oil. If it pulls through this I'll be happy.
