My 1998 blazer, blew a head gasket couple months back tore engine apart. found bad head gasket replaced all gaskets from headers up. went by the book in torqueing bolts, followed sequence. When we got it together all wires connected etc.pured in new oil, antifreeze. new filters. went to start, no joy wont crank over, backfires but that is all. distributor is set right, and timing is good. running out of ideas.

Is the motor getting all the essentials, fuel, air and compression?? When you got it all together did you do a compression test on it??
What about the plugs are they gaped correctly?? And as for the wires are they in there proper sequence???

theres compression but i believe its weak ill have to get a gauge and test it. spark plugs and wires are good.

Ok I would test the compression on it again and see what you get!! Another thing when you rebuilt your motor did you happen to have the heads resurfaced at all??

the dist sounds like its off to me, by having backfiring!!! Can you specify the installation procedure you did for the dist...That way we can count that out as a symptom..
By the way Happy Belated B-day!! old man lol

ive had it where the distributor is 180 degrees out. ive done it a couple times with the 4.3L. the engine backfires and locks up a couple times while cranking. double check make sure the 1cyl is at TDC on compression stroke then set distributor again. its a very easy mistake ive done it 3 out of 5 times while doing engine jobs.
