Default 1995 Jimmy timing

I have a95 jimmy that I am trying to set the timing on, it has the HEI distributor, two timing marks on the crank pulley, and when I set the the crank pulley at the second mark with the v-notch on the timing cover and the distributor at number one it wont start but if I move the wires aroun done terminal it starts. Then I cant get the timing marks to line up with the timing light. what am I doing wrong?

What orientation are your spark plug wires? If they come out of the side of the distributor cap, use the EDI timing thread in the Tech Article (DIY) section.

They come out the top of the distributor, the motor came out of a 97 astro van could the crank pulley be the wrong one and not have the correct timing marks

'97 should have the EDI timing set... Sounds like you have a mix up of components here. If there are two timing marks, I would align it like the EDI engine timing instructions detail.

When I alinge the marks as in EDI it will not start. But when I move the wires clockwise one terminal, it runs but the timing light and the marks dont line up.

Are you lining everything up properly? Does your distributor have a molded in pointer with a '6' on it? Are you pointing the distributor at the '6'?

The marks on the harmonic balancer were wrong. I rolled it to 1 TDC, marked the balancer and reset the distributor. I checked this with the timing light and set to 0 degrees. Reconnected the timing bypass wire and it starts and runs. But it dose not rev up, like maybe the timing is not advancing. This is one of those with OBD I computer and OBD II data port. Does anyone know of any scanners that work with this setup?
