1997 blazer remote start keyless entry installation
October, 2011
Hi, I just got a 1997 Chevy Blazer and it has had two door
changed, they are ok, but with the Blazer, we got one key,
it works for the driver door and door hachet in the back.
It is a four door and I would like to know if a keyless remote
came with this year Blazer. If it did, what would I look for
in the Blazer to tell me if I did. If it does, where can I get one
responsible and how is it installed.
Thanks, Barbara

my 97 blazer did not come with a remote, but i had a security system alarm put on it. you can get one at your local audio or detailing shop.

Look in your glovebox at the RPO codes sticker (white sticker with a bunch of three digit codes and other info on it) if one of the codes listed is AU0 then your blazer came from the factory with keyless entry. If not, then it doesn't have it, but as Badmonkey32 said, you can have an aftermarket system added. If it did come with it, all you would need is the correct remote (cheap on ebay), and program it to your blazer which is pretty easy to do.

Hi tws2000,
Thanks for the information, the only code that came close was
AU3. As it is, I only got one key with the Blazer.
Will the locks work with this key? when I reprogram it with the keyless remote?

they won't change the locks, they will just hook up the wires to use the remote to unlock/lock the doors, go to the store have a couple spare keys cut (most hardware stores do it, and others, walmart and the like).

Thanks coolasice,
I did get a couple of keys made, but I will get someone to do the keyless entry.
I am use to the keyless remotes from driving my 1994 Lincolin towncar.
It has 160 thousand miles on it and it is time to put it to sleep, the car runs great
but it is under the car thats going bad, back mounts were put under it, but it is the
rust, they say can't be fixed, how about that, but they can restore old cars. It's where we love and the stuff they put on the roads in the winter, it's eating up the buttom of the cars. But the I will enjoy the Blazer, it's good for the winter.
Thanks again for the information.
