Default 1997 blazer, shifter/key issue.

Hey everyone, i just picked up a 1997 blazer LS with 160k on it. First off, it has the shifter on the counsel, and will pull out of park at any time when the key is off. No brake or key needed. Also, once you turn the key to the on position, it wont turn back to take it out without pushing a little button on the inside of the column.

Now, im thinking the truck doesnt think its in park, therefore it doesnt let the key turn back. IS there a sensor on the shifter that controls this? Ive noticed also, when you start the truck, the daytime running lights come on right away. I thought they were supposed to stay off until you shift out of park. Probably the same problem as they key issue im thinking.

Lastly, coming off of the positive battery terminal i have 2 green wires. (green for the first few inches) One goes to the alternator, the other is about 4 feet long, has a terminal connector on the end with the rubber boot, and is just coiled up on top of the computer behind the batt. Any idea what its for and where it goes??

Sorry for being so long winded, thaks in advance for any help.

Joe
