1997 Blazer tune up questions
I am getting ready to do a tune up on my 1997 Blazer with the 4.3L, I was just wondering what wire size and brand is the best, and if anyone has had experience with the "quad spark" spark plugs and if they are worth the money or what you all suggest. Also while I am underthere is there anything else you think I should check on a 1997 Blazer with 88,000 miles? Thanks in advanced

The best thing you can do is hit your local dealer and buy the factory recommended replacement parts.

RE: 1997 Blazer tune up questions
I went a grade above factory with my 95 Blazer.
I found a rotor that comes with a lifetime warranty
ROTOR: BWD Select (part number D236)
Its actually built better then the OEM one that GM puts in it.
CAP was also BWD Select (but can not fid the box to give you the part number)
As for wires went with Accell
Plugs are AC Delco (Platinum series Plugs)
I would not use the +4 plugs or even splitfires. I would stick with the AC Delcos.
While under there take a look at your:
ball joints
tie rods
remote oil fiter lines
front main seal
Battery Tray and Battery connections
Most places want to stay with OEM items. On the Blazers you want to do that with the plugs, there are reasons why they have it set for the series plugs that they use (AC Delcos). But as for the rest of the items I would go with a grade above OEM due to they have made large improvements on the parts sense these trucks were made.
Like with the starters, they have a mini starter that will work for the Vortechs now. Not like its needed much, but it fits in better and you can put in headers with less of an issue of them hitting the starter. They have also improved on the intake system, air system, electronics, ect. So its wise on some items to stay OEM, but there are other parts that are much better due to new Technology and better R&D on the items. Heck they even have a better fuel tank and pump, but those are on the newer Blazers. Lucky for most of us that have a 2nd generation the parts interchange up to 2005.

RE: 1997 Blazer tune up questions
I know that the 1995 had a different cap and wires and probably plugs and rotor too, so I can't say yay or nay about them, but I also know that a 1997's original equipment was designed to last 100,000 miles...true few people ever leave them in service that long to find out, but I in fact DID, and the original secondary ignition components were still performing very well at 101,000 miles when I replaced mine......if you can get ANYTHING better than that I'd be interested in seeing them. Everyone has their own opinions and I'm not interested in arguing, I'm just supporting why I have the opinion that ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT is the best thing for a 1997 Blazer.
