Default 1998 Trailblazer Radiator plug

I recently blew a radiator hose and I had to put water into the system in order to get it back home. I want to drain the water out before I refill the system with coolant, but I can not find the drain plug for the life of me. I have a rock guard under the engine will I have to remove this first? For the life of me I just can not find the damn thing.

Default RE: 1998 Trailblazer Radiator plug

Damn... I had this whole long post made up and it didn't go through... Lost it all

Anyway, the drain valve is located on the passenger side radiator tank at the bottom. It has a 1/4" square pocket in it that will allow for a 1/4" rachet & extension to loosen it. I believe it is a 1/4 turn valve. If you encounter resistance after 1/4 turn, the next thing that will happen if you continue to turn it is it'll pop right out! And trust me, you do not want that to happen.

For better access, you can remove the inner fender. You'll need to remove the battery, battery tray, PCM, and coolant overflow bottle. Then you just have to remove the bolts in the wheel well and behind the front bumper and it'll come out, giving you plenty of room to work at the bottom corner of the radiator.

Good Luck!
