Unhappy 1999 Blazer 4X4 drive problem

I think I have read all of the numerous threads relating to 4x4 problems, thank you all. However I haven’t come across the problem I have, unless I have missed a thread.

With the occasional delay I can get all drive combinations and when engaged benefit from 4x4 drive. However when either 4hi or 4lo are engaged moving forward and I start to turn the steering wheel in either direction a load knocking noise can be heard. No noise is heard when in 2wd.

Living here in the wilds of Normandy I do have a set of workshop manuals and a very friendly and competent local garage that has carried out numerous jobs on the vehicle BUT the workings of Chevy 4x4 are more of a mystery.

Can anyone please give me some guidance regarding my problem, I am mechanically capable but have no facilities to carry out any work.

Thanks

BooTs

sounds like it might not be engaging all the way, Check your vac lines for starters.
