Default 1999 Fuel Problem

Hi. 1999 FWD 4D 4.3L. Been having trouble for months trying to diagnose a fuel problem. I replaced fuel pump and filter prior to having intermittent starting issues. One day it would start and if I let it sit for three days it would just crank. Fuel Pressure is around 58psi and closer to 60 while cranking. Recently I tried to start it and decided to pump the heck out of the accelerator while cranking and it sputtered but did not start. So I thought maybe it somehow was out of gas even though I knew it had gas in it. I poured about 2 gallons in the tank and it started like you would expect a vehicle that was out of gas to. I ended up putting about 6 gallons in before it was full. So it was not out of gas. I let it sit three days now and just went out and it stared right up. Is it possible that there is a point where it won't start unless it has a certain amount of gas in the tank? What could cause that? That seems odd to me, but nothing suprises me with this anymore. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

The fuel pick up is on the bottom of the fuel pump module, half an inch or less from the bottom of the tank. After the pump sucks as much fuel as it can, and the engine stalls, there are still a couple of quarts of fuel in the tank. Any amount of fuel that you add, the pump will be able to suck up, and the engine will run.
