1999 GMC Jimmy 4x4 - 4 door - 4.3l - 195,XXX miles

So I've been reading through massive amounts of threads via the "Search" function, but wanted to get everyone's opinion before I drop the tank and put in a new fuel pump.

Here is the issue:

• Car will not start without using starting fluid.
• Once I use starting fluid the vehicle will start up and will remain running (only in park, haven't attempted to drive out of the garage).
• While running I can slowly accelerate without the engine stalling, but once I try to accelerate aggressively the engine will stall. After it stalls I would have to use more starting fluid to restart the engine.

I bought the Jimmy in February 2010 and it now currently has 195,XXX miles on it so I'm not sure what all had been replaced prior to my purchase. Since this incident happened I've changed the following hoping it would be something far less expensive than a fuel pump

• Fuel Filter
• Fuel Pressure Regulator
• Throttle Position Sensor

Next weekend I'll be renting a fuel pressure tester to see if the system is getting to the appropriate pressure. Does anyone have any additional ideas?

 

Yup! Check the pressure,but I think you will need a new pump!
