2 Questions: Starter Engaging and Dome Light
Hi All,
I just purchased a 2000 Jimmy SLT (147K miles) to drive as my winter beater here in Michigan. So far, I've replaced the tires, radiator, belt and tensioner and thought everything else was fine. However, I still have two issues, one serious and one just annoying. If anyone can help, I'd appreciate it:
1) Serious one: It's been cold here, so I've been using the aftermarket Viper remote start to start the car about 5 minutes before I leave in the morning. After starting today, I went outside to clean the ice off and while I was scrapping the window, the starter engaged all by itself, you could hear it grinding since the car was already running. It stopped, then did it again so I shut the car off. After restarting, it did it once more and then didn't do it again, either while idling or while driving. I've noticed that in some instances, it's hard to turn the key all the way back to the off position, sometimes I have to jiggle it or play with it. Not sure if that points to the ignition switch being bad, or if the remote start could somehow be doing it. Thoughts?
2) Annoying one: I can't get the dome light to go off unless I use that Dome Override button. I had the truck hooked up to a scanner, it looks like the drivers door switch is okay but the rest of the switches don't show up. I popped the passenger switch out (the one in the side of the dash) and found that it isn't hooked up, no wires in sight. After searching this forum, I found that the dome light switches were in different places (i.e. door handle) on different models, just wondering how I could go about finding and fixing the problem?
Any info is appreciated.

Hey! It most likely seems the ignition switch is the culprit-so that is where I would start(pun intended) However I have never been a big fan of remote start systems myself, even when I lived in frigid climates (Vail CO,Gorham NH) I always chose to start my units and monitor the gauges and listen so I could be there if something drastic occured...
I have no info on your interior lamp issue, sorry! Best of luck!
