Don't mean to hijack this thread but I have been having this problem on my '00 Jimmy for a while. The fuel pump is still the original one. Although my truck is running good, am I running on borrowed time with this pump? I wonder if I should have the fuel pump replaced (as a preventive maintenance measure) at the same time I have the fuel level sender replaced. After all, it has 16 years and nearly 100,000 miles on it. I would think that the labor to have this done shouldn't be too much more than just the sender alone. Does this sound like a good idea?

The OEM pump, (AC Delco or Delphi) is "usually" good for ~100K miles. If it's an aftermarket pump, the only way you'll get 100K miles, is behind a wrecker. The fuel level sender comes with a new fuel pump module, or you can replace it separately. Labor time is the same if you replace the sender, or the entire module. At 100K miles, it's a no brainer, replace the entire module.

Have ever seen the game-show "Press-Your-Luck"?!!
(Best Clint Eastwood impersonation)
Do ya fell lucky, Punk?!
Well, do ya?!
I sure wouldn't want to push 2-1/2 tons off the side of the road when it does decide to quite...
THEN AGAIN, my 3500 has over 275,000 on the original, BUT I have a hole already cut into the bed, and a new pump in the truk-box for when it decides to f-me on the side of the road... (yeah - I'm pressing my luck... no whammy, no whammy...
