Default 2000 LT Blazer doesnt like to be filled up at the pump

hello everyone. i will first start with whenever i fill it up, the truck basically tells me its full at about 3/4 tank and will not let me continue filling it unless i want to deal with squeezing the pump trigger, then the pump doing its thing when it stops, rinse wash repeat. its kinda annoying but i deal with it. also every time i drive it now when i get out i can smell a strong gas fume odor coming from it for about 15 seconds then it kind of dissipates. any help would be much appreciated.

I believe there is a problem with the vent hose or the purge valve solenoid. Probably best to use the search function to find all the details.

My Blazer has been starting to have the same problem at times...so I will be searching as well.

I have the same problem with my 2001 Blazer. I took it to a place to have code read said was the purge valve solenoid needed replacement. The shop I just dropped it off at for a brake check said could be something more like vacuum leak so running a test on it. Is very aggravating to have to try and fill the tank only to have it shut off over and over people tell me maybe filling tank wrong no that is not it! Service engine light on.

I remember reading that this could be caused by a floating ball device in the filler neck which is there to prevent gas syphoning by thieves. Do a search for that and see if it sounds like a possibility. The consensus was to remove the plastic ball and it would allow free gas fill up's.

It's always been the purge valve solenoid on mine. located in rear by the gas tank. I take mine off, take it apart and blow compressed air to clean dust, and dirt out of it. Works every time for me

My service light was off now is back on. I had truck at a service station they said is just annoyance only and not important to fix purge valve. I went to put gas in and it was ok now that light came back on I wonder if it will do the same thing keep shutting off it is annoying indeed but not real expensive to fix.
