Default 2001 2wd....Need some advise...!

Hey guys,
I am new to this forum so please be gentle. I bought a real nice 2001 Blazer about 4 weeks ago.

It runs great other then its a bit loud in the muffler area...previous owner said they just put a new catalytic converter. I am not sure it supposed to be a bit loud or not. I did notice that the end of the muffler is about a feet from the back bumper, aiming downward...under the truck. I am not sure its supposed to be like that. I thought all mufflers should end at the bumper.

Also, about a week ago, the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light came on. I took it to Autozone and they said it was something to do with some air escaping or the catalytic area or gas cap was not on right. So I tighten the gas cap but its still on. Everything else runs great. They told me that if I disconnect the positive on the battery for a bit it should reset. I tried it but it did not work. I then disconnected the whole battery for about 15 minutes but its still on.

And one more thing, a week after I bought it the ABS and BRAKE lights stayed on after I turned the truck on. I turned the truck off and then turned it back on and they stayed off. It did that just a few times after. It would stay off after I turned it off and then turned it back on. Then yesteday while I was driving..they turned on. I checked the brake fluid level and its good...I have no problem with the brakes at all.
And then this morning, on the way to work...the same lights came on again.

I have notice other things too....after driving a bit, the oil pressure gauge fluctuates when I slow down at a stop light or when I am slowing down...and the battery gauge starts off over the mid-level area of the gauge but after driving around a bit.it ends up just below the mid-level.

I really love this truck...its just what I was looking for but I really hope all this doesnt turn out to be a bad deal for me.

I know these are alot of questions I need help in but any advise you guys can offer would be greatly appreciate it. I want to head out to the coast to do some fishing but I am a bit concern...as you can imagine. That is one of the main reasons I bought it.
I would really like to turn that SES light off...Autozone will not reset it for me.

Thanks,
Dave ~

The muffler should sit about directly under the rear seat floorboard. The factory muffler muffler is too quiet for my taste, but it sounds like this may be an aftermarket replacement. Have an exhaust shop take a look.

Stop back at AutoZone and have them read the SES codes again (unless they were erased from the computer's memory). Come back to this thread and let us know what the exact code numbers are. While you are there have them test the battery and alternator. It's all free.

A slight dip in oil pressure at lower RPM is normal. How much is it dipping?
