2001 4-dr LT intermittent starting
#1
Hi all-
Intermittent starts on 2001 4-dr 4WD LT. Once it decides to not start, it won't start for a period of hours/overnight. It seems like when it fails to start, it often begins to engage, but doesn't quite make it, and quits. I believe the engine is turning over; if I step on the gas, it maybe seems to rumble/shake a bit more during effort to start?
Allegedly (shady garage) plugs, wires, distributor, secondary AIR pump all replaced 4-5 months ago, when previous apparently moisture-related starting issues encountered and EVAP and AIR codes were preventing passing NYS inspection.
Dealership said something about the fuel pressure sensor before I took it to the shady garage, who didn't replace fuel pressure sensor.
Only codes are P0440. Not the gas tank cap; haven't had it smoke tested, but need to if I'm going to figure out what's throwing the small EVAP leak.
Anything obvious I should be looking at here? I'm hoping to drive this thing through the winter before I replace it, I can't afford to right now.
Thanks in advance-

(And yes, allegedly the evap vent solenoid was dealt with 4-5 months ago as well.)
(And, yes, again as far as evap, the hoses and fittings around the canister look fine, mostly new in fact. Purchased as such used, two years ago, throwing code ever since purchase.)

Could possibly be a fuel pump issue. Have you read and done the DIY article posted on this forum regarding the 96+ fuel system diagnoses?

I own a 93 trans am with the lt1. Question one when is the last time you replaced your fuel filter?
Two. Do you have cats on it?

Can I roll-start this thing in order to drive it two miles down the road to a garage, rather than pay $150 for a tow?

Don't think you can push start the Automatic transmission version, and if it's your fuel pump push starting probably won't work anyway.
You might try this trick; Turn the key to "on" (not engaging the starter) then to "off" several times. If it's a bad fuel pump 'sometimes' this helps get one last go from the pump. Worth a try huh?
Let us know what you find out.
